 SinusLeistungsSteller - Elektro-Quad 10.18.2008

Markus Landeck´s Electro-Quad (prototype)

Markus works several months on the reconstruction of the small quad towards eloctromotive drive- here a first report ...

First a pure test model intended for the SLS and reduced to pure technology, it is not suited for any kind of aesthetic demands and is not permitted to drive on the road (even if it is equipped with LED headlights and brake lights). First NiCd-cells were used (discarded aircraft batteries - thank you Torsten!), which were regarding size and weight (50kg) very difficult to place on the quad. The mechanics in general made more problems than the motor-electronics. A SLS-42-220 and the well known industry motor were used. The SLS is equipped with big heatsinks, the motor has a fan attached. During the ride the motor nor the SLS reached a temperature over 50°C.

For the startup a centrifugal clutch from a GoKart was used , which yet has its difficulties to move pilot+vehicle (overall 200kg!). As soon as the clutch engages, the powerful motor clearly can be sensed! With a optimized clutch and lighter LiPo-batteries a vehicle could be realized suitable for everyday usage. A road permission would also be possible with reasonable effort.

The video shows a compilation of an autumnal test-drive. Our test pilot (thank you Frank!) dominates the quad very well - although the position of the batteries made the vehicle very topheavy. Gradients of more than 20% can be climbed without any problems. The only noticeable noise came from the wheels. :-)
